Share files on Linux - the easy way

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to share files on Linux using a program called Meiga. This program has a graphical user interface and it is very easy to install; you don't even have to open a terminal. Furthermore, only the sender has to install it; the receiver will be able to access the files from his/her web-browser.

1. Download Meiga from here (only deb packages are available).

2. After you install and open Meiga, you get a window that looks like this:

3. Click the plus sign ( + ) in the top left to add the directory you want to share. A window will open that looks like the one below.

4. For Local directory choose the directory (folder) you want to share; and for Share as just give it some short name, since you will need to type that name later.

5. That's it. You are now done with the configuration.

6. Now, just go to Share > Copy Invitation and paste that in a text editor.

7. Now go to the other computer (the receiver), open a web browser, and enter the URL from step 6. Basically the URL is http://[local_ip]:8001/[share name]

8. You would now see a list of the contents of the directory, which you can now easily download.

The best highlights of this software are that it is GUI, it does not have to be installed on every machine, and it allows you to share files between Linux and any other OS.
